Brewed LTD

On their daily walks, Vance At Bishop Unions’ dogs tug at their leashes (without a hint of subtlety) and sniff their way to Brewed LTD, a hyper-local, pet-friendly coffeehouse hidden inside a stretch of apartment buildings. Brewed LTD lies past a leasing office, below stories of double-hung windows and metal balconies. 

Its interior has the space smarts of a model unit, with a by-the-wall booth, living room nooks, and abstract bookcase divider. Barstools are tucked into a window-side ledge, facing a pathway wide enough for goat yoga sessions (which Brewed LTD does occasionally co-host). A slotted mailroom wrapped in maroon wallpaper and local illustrations (Jefferson Blvd’s Texas Theatre, nearby Davis Street’s The Kessler, and Dallas’ iconic city skyline) hip-joins the cafe. There’s more seating here, including a comfy ottoman. 

Craft Coffee is Brewed LTD’s main game, and they play it well. Here’s what to get: the Candy Bar Latte (sweet and nostalgic), Thai-Licious (the Thai twist is condensed milk), or the Earl Gray Latte (a milky tea with a spot of honey).

Hola Cafe

Hola Café is one of the most photogenic coffee shops in Bishop Arts District. It’s also the smallest. You’ll want to quickly duck in, order a drink, snap a pic, and go. This micro-coffeehouse is owned and operated by lifestyle influencer Jeniffer Solais, so unsurprisingly, it’s trendy, Pinterest-ready, and aesthetic. The minimalist interior is polished in black and white. And the drinks? They’re really good. The flavors are crisp and fresh. Get the strawberry matcha latte, a layered favorite with the right amount of sweetness.

White Rhino Coffee

White Rhino Coffee has the bright lights and low-to-ground couches of a Hyatt Place lobby; its hefty barista counter resembles those in airport Starbucks. The coffeehouse’s atmosphere bears the corporate air of a meeting room siloed off into study-friendly stations.

White Rhino is primed for productivity, making its W Seventh Street location one of the best Bishop Arts District coffee shops from which to work. The drinks carry the mellowness of medium roasts (the company roasts its coffee beans in small batches right in Dallas). And White Rhino’s iced lattes are serviceable fuels for long hours spent negotiating emails and engaging in deep work.

Davis Street Espresso

Davis Street Espresso is one of the most stubborn coffee shops in Bishop Arts District. It’s adamant you spend screen-free time there. There’s indoor seating, patio seating, and even an abandoned bus out back designed to keep you parked. Drinks arrive in for-here cups where you can see the latte art, crema, macrofoam, or whatever else your order demands. Bring a book to read (or a lactose-tolerant friend to chat with) because WiFi is against Davis Street Espresso’s ethos. Alt-milks are too. The coffee bean is consecrated at Davis Street Espresso, placed at a level where thou shall not desanctify it. So, naturally, the shop (which smells like chocolate and butter and hot coffee) has a cult following for its bean-blessed pour-overs and vanilla lattes.

Wayward Coffee

Wayward Coffee Co is the definition of chill and hip. The layout feels like a co-working space (imagine stepping into a mini Common Desk): laptops are opened up, and outlets are used.

You’ll find some of the best espresso in Bishop Arts District here. Wayward uses Cat & Cloud, a Santa Cruz-based operation, as its main roaster. In Dallas, coffee culture tends to swirl around Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters, so this was a bold move but the right one. Wayward Coffee stands out. Opt for the cortado or the Gold Rush (which has sugar, spice, and everything nice).
